Convocation - The Heavenly Zoo

Long ago the Greeks and Romans looked at the starry night sky, saw patterns, and remembered them by assigning them the names of animals, gods, and mythological creatures.  The names they assigned are still used by modern Western astronomers (and astrologers). We will discuss some basic ideas about the night sky and try to show that knowing about constellations, asterisms, and the zodiac can turn the night sky into a visual friend that you can visit every non-cloudy night.
