A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT

I know that all of us are very grateful to be here at Monte Vista Grove Homes as a family that cares a great deal for one another. We are a people of faith who have centered our lives in sharing God's love in service to others. But I am also aware that the personal interpretation of our faith differs from one another. In that difference, we may disagree so forcefully that we can hurt others and be hurt. The title of a book in a recent issue of Tidings has made this very clear.

Placing any of us in a broad theological category is so wrong. The understanding of the good word, "evangelical," has been stolen. It is used now, because of the political problems in our society, to place people in a spot they haven't chosen. I have always been, and will always be, an "evangelical" m the best sense of that word, and no one can lake that away from me. Tidings is sponsored by the Residents Executive Council and meets a very important need. It helps us to know what is going on In the life of our family. We value the ways in which each of us is unique, and we strive to treat each individual with respect and dignity. Articles submitted to be published in the Tidings should reflect these qualities.
