News from the Hearth
THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE BEEN UP TO SINCE MARCH!
Sherman Fung: Being confined has provided lots of time to do things, especially tasks that I've put off doing. You know, things from years ago that are complicated and time-consuming to deal with --like going through files, photos, and writings. When embarking on this kind of . task, one never knows the outcome. While looking for income tax files, I came. across a folder from years ago of paintings that I had made into Christmas cards. What a treat to look at them again. Alyse is being well taken care of in the Ranch House. The staff try to provide activities to engage the folk there, e.g., simple artwork. Our daughter comes to visit us occasionally, and we are able to be in touch with others ln the family via Zoom.
Marie Melrose: I'm enjoying my new room which is quite adequate and has a nice layout. I enjoy greeting other residents on my walks. I visit with my nieces and a nephew on Skype, and a cousin has come twice to visit in person, each time bringing a lovely plant. After months of having to use plastic utensils, I am so grateful that we get to use regular silverware again!
Evelyn Heyne: My family and I are grateful for my being well taken care of. Most of their friends worry about their relatives. My family in the East call three times per week, and they are always grateful to hear that all is well here.
Andy Jarvis: The physical therapist asked me what I did for fun. I said I used to play golf, ski, fish, and travel. But now I no longer have any fun! I eat, sleep, go to the bathroom, watch lots of sports on TV, and watch our friends and old neighbors walk by our patio. I don't drive anymore, so we are grateful for Ruben and his driving us to doctor appointments. The food and care here are excellent.
Dee Jarvis: I paint; I look at my iPad; I work on puzzles; I read, walk, talk to people, and watch TV. I don't get bored, but I do miss going to the store to buy clothes and going to a restaurant for dinner. Everything is done for us here; even our bed is made! Anything we need is forthcoming. Everyone is pleasant. We are so pleased to be here. They even joined the two patios to make them one without our even asking for it. I don't need to plan what to have for a meal. I don't need to do the washing, vacuuming, dusting, etc, etc. When something goes haywire, someone is always there to help fix it. The CNAs assist right away and are excellent.
Millie Lou McClellan: I listen to audiobooks; I watch TV; I take walks. My life is very simple, but I like it.
Nancy Caldwell: I do 300-piece puzzles. I'm in the Christmas spirit already with decorations in my room. I like the small, twinkling, tree ornament in my hallway window.
Tiat Han Tan: I enjoy sitting down outside my room in the long, sunny, corridor that runs from one end to the other of the Hearth. Its quiet surroundings encourage me to read, meditate, and pray.
Carol Moomaw: I'm sure glad I'm here. It's such a family atmosphere even during COVID. I know I'm going to be taken care of here. Donn and I can eat our meals together. My leg isn't healing well, so I would appreciate prayers for that. I pass the time by reading and watching TV. I very much enjoy reading The Tidings each month!
Bill Stackhouse: I was sorry to leave the Hearth recently, but so happy to be reunited with my beloved wife, Joan. We're together in Room 18 in the Health Center.
Al Lorenz: This is a wonderful place to be. Service is better than a 5-star hotel! All are kind and helpful, and I have good neighbors. We are like a family; we are interested in and care about each other. Any time you want to move in there will be room for you - and I'll give you a good recommendation! Hope to see you soon!
