A WORD FROM VICTORIA EATON OF THE WELLNESS CENTER
I enjoyed meeting with many of you for a consultation and starting up the Wellness Center classes.
* Look for a new temperature-taking machine and protocol coming soon in the Wellness Center.
* We will celebrate finishing the marathon with prizes given on October 15th the Friday after the official Boston Marathon.
* Check the new schedule of classes posted on the door of the Wellness Center or on the bulletin board.
* Stretching, singing, ping pong, Tai Chi, and walking are free offerings in the Wellness Center.
* Tips for this month focus on the physical aspects of the eight dimensions of wellness.
* Remember to turn in your Interest Questionnaires to my cubby so I can get some field trips going or other groups and classes.
I have been privileged to get acquainted with many of you. The MVGH residents are impressive and interesting. I was struck the other day how I am teaming from all of you, from the staff to the residents. My stick-out story this week was talking to a gentleman about mindfulness. Mindfulness is the basic ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we are doing, and not being overly reactive or overwhelmed by what is going on around us. Many of you may be in a time in your life where this is available; some of you may have to put it as a conscious focus. I was struck by this person's willingness to learn something new and put it into practice. The learning was going on through a DVD, and the practice was right here on campus with mindful walking. We have so many ways to learn things and so many ways to put them into action. I walk past the cactus garden on my way to my office and I am struck with the prickly beauty. My mom at 92 wakes up every day so glad and amazed that she is alive. We both like to think of five gratitudes a day. Perhaps this introspective time with a Covid shut down has given us the opportunity to reevaluate or notice the beauty around us. I hope so.
WANTED: Walking Leaders ... Do you have a route you enjoy? Please lead me or tell me about it. I have already had some of you talk to me and had Cynthia White share her routes and photos. I hope to repeat some of these with you on Thursdays. I will walk this week and then resume walking
Thursdays on October 14. If anyone is interested in leading, please let me know and I will post it.
WANTED: Someone to cohost/lead field trips. I would love to resume outings to various spots of interest like museums gardens or libraries, walks, and lunch, etc. We need someone who is willing to help generate interest and keep track of the trip details and sign-ups. I am happy to assist.
Be Well.
