A Note of Thanks
Dear Monte Vista Grove Homes Residents, Staff and Administrators,:
We would like to take this opportunity to express our most profound gratitude for the manner in which you loved, cared for and supported our beloved parents, Don and Lee Hawthorne, throughout the years and in particular in the closing months, days and hours of their lives.
Mom was so grateful for the bouquets of flowers, the cards, and care that were given to her as she lived out her final days. For all of the residents and staff who drove Mom and ran
errands for Mom when she could no longer drive, we are so very grateful! And we were
touched by the care that was taken to help Mom and Dad stay connected, too.
Dad, in spite of his failing memory, was lovingly cared for by the extraordinary care givers at the Health Center, Residential Services, and Life Engagement. Their love and devotion were evident in every call, coordinated visit, and zoom call.
Mom loved art, and so enjoyed serving as a docent at the Huntington Library and teaching young people the glory of the creative process as witnessed in the tours she led. She loved needlepoint and knitting even as her eyesight failed her because of the connections she made through that work. Dad loved music and spiritual direction and so enjoyed whistling and singing, leading the Men's Glee Club for the Royal Court, and helping people find their way through challenging memories and spiritual questions.
Dad had a special fondness for the members of the staff who cared for the grounds at MVGH and prepared the food, and thoroughly enjoyed engaging in conversation with them. Dad and Mom had much appreciation for the kindness of the CNAs.
To live in community is to extend one's hands and feet and share in the generous and sometimes difficult work to which our Lord calls us: to show compassion, empathy and love to one another. This was the experience you afforded our parents, and for that we are eternally grateful. Continue in His love to care for each other, support and nurture each other, and know that Dad and Mom are smiling down upon you and look forward to greeting you again one day in the heavenly realms.
