I was reflecting on this issue, much discussed today, thinking about my medical care.

For many years, my primary care physician was Dr. Hee from Hong Kong. Since he retired, he was replaced by Dr. Gomez, an Hispanic American.

When I had a stroke three years ago, my neurologist was from Iran.

My ophthalmologist is Dr. Ong who came to this country as a 13-year-old girl from Myanmar.

The cardiologist I consulted recently is from India, and when I was in the hospital a month ago, the physician was a young Vietnamese.

What should we learn from this? I think two things.

First, we welcome men and women from many races and cultures. They enrich us.

Second, in light of our Lord's last command, make disciples of all the ethne" (Mt. 18: 18-20), how is the church prepared to meet this challenge?
